Why is My Printer Offline?

My printer suddenly stopped working! Why!? We hear your query. Although it’s annoying, there might be a variety of reasons why a printer that had previously worked started to show as offline or unavailable. You may check a few simple things to see why your machine might not be shown as accessible to print.

Do I have Connection Issues?

After making sure the device is switched on, the most obvious thing to verify is that it is connected properly. You must make sure that your device is linked to both the printer and the computer if you use a printer cable connection to use it. You could want to test a different cable or USB port on your computer if the connection here seems to be working well to be sure neither is broken.

What About Network Issues?

Make sure the ethernet cable is connected to the computer, your port/hub, and that the indicator lights are on if you use your device on a wired network. If they aren’t, you should try a new cable or ask your IT administrator to make sure the network isn’t the issue.

The problem might be with the device’s settings if you are positive that the network is operational and that it is connected properly. It could have changed if, for instance, your printer was given an automated IP address. You can print a network configuration page to verify that the printer’s IP address corresponds to the one specified in your printer driver. Reinstalling the printer can fix the issue if you are unfamiliar with this procedure.

Even though this is still a network connection, you need also make sure that the printer and router/Wi-Fi hub’s connection has not been lost in addition to verifying the issued IP address. To make sure it is connected, you can often verify this using the device control panel. It is important to verify that your router is operating properly as well.

If you are confident that the computer is connected properly in the majority of the aforementioned scenarios, you might only need to reinstall the drivers. If you still have the original printer CD, you may typically locate these there or on the manufacturer’s website. In cases when a recent computer system upgrade may have resulted in a driver problem, you might need to do this.

If the aforementioned steps don’t resolve the issue and your printer is still offline, we advise getting in touch with the printer’s maker directly for some troubleshooting guidance.
